Sylvia’s visit to the Algarve, Portugal
The Algarve region in Portugal is the Southwestern most part of Europe. It’s coastline stretches for 230km of which 150km are beaches. The coastline changes from hundreds of beautiful, clean, sandy beaches to cliffs and rocky coves and gorgeous blue-green waters. The sun shines brilliantly almost all year round giving the region a major role as a year-round holiday destination.
If you have a car rental, you can explore on your own the many unique historical towns along the Algarve. Or if you prefer, many escorted day trips are available to further fascinating areas such as Lisbon or even Seville, Spain.
The shopping in Portugal will certainly not disappoint. Beautifully hand painted ceramics and tiles make a lovely souvenir. Portuguese leather-making is known throughout the world. Its products include jackets, shoes and wallets, all of which sell for very reasonable prices. Cork is also a big industry in Portugal of which delicate purses and wallets and other products are made.
There are many quaint restaurants and cafes serving up the freshest fish and seafood. In particular, the fish stew and cataplana are the region’s most famous dishes. If fact, despite the tourism growth, you can still watch fishermen bring in their daily catch.
If you want to discover something more than just beaches and appreciate religious and military architecture. Visit the many churches and monuments and walk around ruins of castles. The Algarve is famous for many outdoor activities such as golf and tennis and horseback riding.
Whatever you enjoy, you will certainly appreciate all that the Algarve has to offer. For more information please contact Holiday Travel.
