2010 Tour of Russia and Siberia

This itinerary is a personal document developed by Len Loeppky, the tour host. He will be visiting and traveling through this area in June, 2010, after the Mennonite Historical Conference in Omsk.

Optional side tour to Ukraine after June 22

Clients planning to do a post tour of the Mennonite Colonies in Ukraine will develop details with tour host once more details have been established. It will also depend on the group size.

Day 1, Sunday, June 5 - Departure from Winnipeg
International travel departing from Canada via Toronto with an overnight flight to Europe, via Frankfurt to Moscow.
Day 2, Monday, June 6 - Arrive in Moscow
Arrive in Moscow, Russia sometime in the afternoon from Frankfurt or other European city. Transfer from airport to hotel with a short overview city tour featuring Moscow hi-lights en-route to hotel. Length of tour depends on flight arrival. Dinner
Day 3, Tuesday, June 7 - Moscow Tours
Breakfast at the hotel followed by tour of the Red Square, Kremlin, Armory, GUM, Bolshoi and other points of interest in the heart of Moscow. Travel by metro with guide. Group lunch, Dinner personal
Day 4, Wed, June 8 - Moscow Sightseeing
Breakfast followed by another day of sight seeing focusing on Arbat Street, Christ the Savior Church and other points of interest in the city center. Clients will also have opportunity to do some shopping on both days 3 & 4. Metro travel with guide. Lunch and dinner personal.
Day 5, Thurs, June 9 - Flight to Omsk
Breakfast followed by hotel check out and transfer to the airport for flight to Omsk departing approximately 10:45PM and arriving in Omsk at 5:15 PM. Transfer from airport in Omsk to hotel with guide for check-in at hotel followed by group dinner and briefing for the next day.
Day 6, Friday, June 10 - Omsk Tour
Breakfast at hotel. After breakfast we will spend the day touring with guide/bus and become familiar with Omsk and some of the local sights and customs of Siberia. Group lunch. Dinner personal.
Day 7, Sat, June 11 - Villages Tour
Breakfast at hotel. This morning we will travel by bus to the villages west of Omsk. The following villages will be hi-lited: Waldheim…Willock Farms, church and mill, Solntsovka…largest MB community in the country, Isil Kul, Maryanovka, Putskova & Petrovka. These villages will be visited on days 7, 8, 9 10. Recommended we stay in a hotel in Isul kul for days 7, 8, 9. During days 7-10 travel will be by bus with a driver and local Mennonite guide. Mennonite settlements as outlined above will be visited as determined by the local officials in the colonies and requests from clients. Meals not detailed yet.
Day 8, Sunday, June 12 - Sangerfest
Miralubovska/Alexanderkrone – Sangerfest. This will be an all day event with Mennonites in attendance from across the area.
Day 9, Monday, June 13 - Sangerfest
Continuation of Sunday’s events
Day 10, Tuesday, June 14 - Return to Omsk
Today we will return to Omsk in the early afternoon and spend the night at the hotel. There will be time for relaxing as well as debriefing with our Mennonite guide. Dinner.
Day 11, Wed, June 15 - Tatarsk
Breakfast at hotel. Early this morning we will begin our journey to Tatarsk and visit the Mennonite village of Nieudachino…..about 40KM away from Tatarsk. This is a MB/GC settlement so we will spend the afternoon and evening with them. Travel will be by bus. There is a hotel in Tatarsk for accommodation.
Day 12, Thurs, June 16 - Bus to Slavgorod
Breakfast at the hotel after which we will have an early departure for Day 12 Slavgoroda modest days drive by bus. Lunch en-route to Slavgorod. Check-in at the hotel where we will meet our Mennonite guide, Alex Weiss. Dinner.
Day 13, Friday, June 17 - Slavgorod Tour
Breakfast at the hotel. A day of touring in the city of Slavgorod visiting the “Gelbe Meuhle” and other local sites of interest. If time allows we will visit the village of Bas Agatch Settlement just north west of the city. A brief historical update on the Mennonites in the area by the Weiss brothers is anticipated. Dinner
Day 14, Saturday, June 18 - Tour Mennonite Villages
Breakfast at hotel. Today will be a day of touring where we will visit the Mennonites Settlements of Glyaden, Pashnya and Saratov to the southeast. These will be side trips in smaller groups for people who are interested in a specific village. These will be long days so snack food will be required. Dinner.
Day 15, Sunday, June 19 - Baptist Church Service
Breakfast at the hotel. Attend the large Baptist Church for the Sunday service. Hopefully this will give us an opportunity to visit with some of the local Mennonites living in the city. Free day or plans to visit a specific settlement near Slavgorod would be an option. This would be a personal choice. Lunch/Dinner personal.
Day 16, Monday, June 20 - Barnaul Colony
Breakfast at the hotel. Today will be our last day of group touring where we will visit the Barnaul Colony just north east of Slavgorod. We will focus on some of the more significant villages occupied by Mennonites in this colony. Farewell dinner
Day 17, Tuesday, June 21 - Return to Omsk
Breakfast and early departure for travel to Omsk with an overnight before an early departure the next day. Dinner at hotel.
Day 18, Wed, June 22 - Departure
Breakfast and early check out and transfer to the airport for flights to Moscow/Frankfurt, and back to Canada. There may be another overnight in Frankfurt before the trans-Atlantic flight depending on our flight schedule. Meals en-route personal.
